How to properly dose CBD oil to animals?

CBD is no longer standing on the sidelines. It can support, accelerate and streamline treatment or act purely as a preventive measure. It is suitable for both humans and animals. But the big unknown concerns the ideal daily dose. A pet won't tell you how it feels after taking cannabidiol.

CBD oil for humans and dogs

The pharmacological effects of cannabidiol are not to be overlooked, as it is growing in strength and research is confirming more and more benefits of its use. Some are clear and unquestionable, others are bandied around waiting for their moment of glory. It more or less doesn't matter whether CBD is used preventively as a possible protection against the development of certain diseases or as a supportive crutch to combat various ailments.

CBD drops are suitable for both humans and animals, and thanks to the endocannabinoid system that research has revealed in all mammals, it is easier to maintain balance in the body. The action of enzymes, endocannabinoids and receptors ensures communication between individual cells, prevents fluctuations and keeps the body systems at rest.

After talk began to abound about a possible link between CBD and neurodegenerative or autoimmune disease, chronic pain and inflammation, or sleep quality and anxiety conditions (and much more), questions arose as to whether animals could be relieved in the same way. It is, but a quandary has arisen with determining the exact dose. While humans can perceive even the slightest changes in the body and can describe them, this is not possible for pets. They can sense that something is different, but they have no way of passing it on. So it is up to humans to monitor them and adjust the appropriate and safe amount according to the pet's needs.

The ideal dose of CBD

The same applies as for humans. For preventive use, lower doses are better, for therapeutic effects the number of drops should be increased. In any case, however, it is necessary to start with smaller amounts in order to detect in time adverse reactions of the dog to the new substance. The standard is set at 0.5 mg per 1 kg of live weight of the animal.

CBD oil is also suitable for dogs. Just administering it as drops can be problematic.

The calculation is simple. Just take into account the concentration of the oil. While at 5% there are 2 mg per drop, at 10% there are 4 mg (direct proportionality applies). One dose a day is usually not enough and the oil is given even four times. In the case of tablets, one or two is sufficient.

The problem may be in the administration. In dogs, application under the tongue is recommended. Unfortunately, sublingual use is not very popular with them. It is ideal to mix a few drops directly into the food.

High CBD requirements

In some areas, the distinction between human and animal products is blurring. On the one hand, you are sourcing pellets free of gluten and questionable ingredients that have no place in quality feeds; on the other hand, you should also ensure that the CBD oils are of sufficient quality.

The quality of the cannabis plant itself, the production process, certification and documentable analysis are important. Some drops are specifically for veterinary use. If you want to accommodate your dog, you can buy a product with coconut or salmon carrier oil. These don't bother them as much and partially buffer the taste of CBD.

Dogs and Everyone Else

CBD drops can of course be used by other animals, with cats following closely behind dogs. Just adjust the daily dose to the weight and the effects will be identical. Only with higher amounts may there be a greater need for sleep and a temporary lack of energy, dry mouth and a search for quiet and solitude.
